sophia-moreau:

Too much time to think. Someone distract me. Living alone has plenty of downsides.

I understand how you feel completely, especially the living alone part. Definitely not the best feeling at times like these. I get worried when it gets quite around here, that’s when everything seems to go wrong.

ethan-wallace:

Hands buried in his pockets, Ethan watched as she took out two bowls. He had made soup for Sydney on a few occasions and she didn’t keel over so he figured it was edible. “Scared of my own cooking? Please,” he scoffed. “Sure, I’ll have some. Just to prove it’s not poisonous or anything.” He looked around her kitchen before returning his attention back to Evelyn, cracking a small smile. “I said it because I knew you could handle it.”

He couldn’t help but chuckle at her expression and feel somewhat bad for her. Her face was slightly paler than usual and she looked as though she would be lost without her sweaters. “Come here,” he said and beckoned the homicide detective over with his hand.

With a chuckle at his response, she nodded her head and placed a second bowl down next to hers. Well, if he was planning on eating it then it couldn’t be that bad, right? Shutting the cupboard door, she slipped back down off the counter which had served to boost her height, adjusting the blankets around her shoulders once more for fear of losing them.

“You knew I could handle it? Are you kidding? I’m dying on the inside.” She pouted, shaking her head as if disappointed. Of course, she wasn’t – but he knew that. She was about to take the plunge and shuffle towards the soup until she saw him beckoning her over. A small smile tugged at her lips. Evelyn sure as Hell hoped it was an offer for a hug because she could do with one of those far more than any chicken soup he had to offer. Plus stealing his body heat seemed like a sneaky bonus, of course.

“You’re not just going to poke fun at my weight again, are you?” She scrunched up her nose sceptically, taking a few small steps to close the gap between them.

No, I’m not investigating. Despite all that’s going on around here with the Basket Case, time doesn’t stand still, Petersen. A mother and her four year old child were murdered this morning - I’m investigating that because it’s my job.

I can’t handle every single case that comes through here, especially when it’s not my field.

You think I don’t know time doesn’t stand still, Harding?  Today I had a child who was beaten by his father so bad, the internal damage was nearly impossible to fix.  I handled three deaths today, about eight surgeries, and on top of that, not only has Rhett disappeared, but I found out some pretty shitty news about myself today.

I just figured it was protocol for the names of anyone kidnapped was spread around the police station just in case.  Apparently not.  Sorry I put too much faith in the police.  Won’t happen again.

I’m not making this a pissing contest, for goodness sake. I was just pointing out that if anything? You should be glad I’m not on their case. I get assigned to cases where there isn’t a chance of finding the people. They’re already dead. So I’m sorry, I deeply apologize that you’ve had a shitty day, but I can’t help that. I’m sorry about your friend but I don’t get to pick and choose what I investigate. That’s not how it works.

Do you know what? You can cut the attitude. Do you know how many people go missing every day? Do you know how many people are killed? How many people we’re supposed to keep an eye on because they’re suspects? Sometimes we don’t always get the memo. If it’s not directly relevant to my case, chances are I don’t get told, no. You might have a stressful job, but get down off your high horse. Everyone’s job can be stressful and mine is no exception, so don’t you dare try to insinuate that you somehow think you have a better grasp on how I’m supposed to do it.

I can imagine.. Hopefully he’ll turn up with Sydney and the other boy who is missing.

Jackson.  The other boy is Jackson.  Why don’t you know that?  Aren’t you investigating?

I guess paranoia really sets in at times like this. I hope he’s okay and shows up soon. I’ll put out the word, see if anyone can find him, okay?

Alright. His brother is breathing down my neck now. It’s not good.  I’m glad I didn’t call his father.

I can imagine.. Hopefully he’ll turn up with Sydney and the other boy who is missing.
